Care For God’s Creation and Ontario EcoSchools

The Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board proclaims the glory of God by teaching students about the important role of ecology and Catholic stewardship.

Our schools are committed to being intentional with learning and projects that glorify God through social action.

Our schools are also uniquely focused on the Encyclical Letter Laudato Si’  – His Holiness Pope Francis .

We embrace the seven themes of Catholic Social Teaching  within which  Care For God’s Creation is a critical element of our daily instruction.

Our schools are also deeply involved in a provincial focus on Ontario Ecoschools. Ontario EcoSchools is an environmental education and certification program for grades K-12 that helps school communities and reduce the environmental footprint of schools.  The mission of Ontario EcoSchools is to develop ecological literacy and environmental practices to become environmentally responsible citizens.

The six sections of the Ontario EcoSchools program act as a road map to identify areas where students can take action. EcoTeams can pick and choose what they would like to implement throughout the school year, connecting environmental learning with daily practices. All six sections promote student engagement, take place during the school year, and are within the realm of student influence.
